The COVID-19 pandemic, also known as the coronavirus pandemic, is an ongoing global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The World Health Organization declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 20 January 2020, and later a pandemic on 11 March 2020. As of 29 March 2021, more than 127 million cases have been confirmed, with more than 2.78 million deaths attributed to COVID-19, making it one of the deadliest pandemics in history.





SYMPTOMS

Fever is a common symptom of COVID-19, but it remains unclear exactly how common. A 2020 review in PLOS One with data from almost 25,000 adults found that fever was the most common symptom. It was present in 78%Trusted Source of cases.

Coughs come in a variety of forms. For example, you may see coughs referred to as either productive or nonproductive. A productive cough is a cough that brings up mucus or phlegm, while a nonproductive cough is dry.

Fatigue is a term used to describe an overall feeling of tiredness or lack of energy. It isn’t the same as simply feeling drowsy or sleepy. When you’re fatigued, you have no motivation and no energy. Being sleepy may be a symptom of fatigue, but it’s not the same thing.

Shortness of breath is more likely to be a warning sign of COVID-19 if it's accompanied by a fever, cough, or body aches. On average, shortness of breath tends to set in around 4 to 10 days after you contract an infection with the new coronavirus. Shortness of breath may be mild and not last long
